Tianjin is the fourth largest city in China, in terms of urban citizens. It 120 km from Beijing, and serves as the capital's port. This has made Tianjin one of the wealthiest in China, and is reflected in the city's architecture, design and cleanliness. The city's diverse architecture has also benefited from Tianjin's colonial period; Tianjin was a major concession city to the eight nations with colonial houses leftover from the British, German, US, Italian, French, Austria-Hungary, Japanese and Russians of the eight-nation alliance dotted throughout the city. Unfortunately I wasn't able to tour the city other than a quick drive through, but I was able to visit Nankai University for some time.
Nankai University is one of the top ten universities in China, leading in hard sciences such as mathematics, physics and chemistry. The university is one of the oldest in China, established in 1919, but did not really achieve its high international ranking until after the economic reforms in 1980. At this point, the central government began to focus attention on the university since it became listed directly under control of the ministry of education.
The university is fairly small & simple, but quite beautiful with a lake and rivers running through it.
Along a bridge in Tianjin

Or chopsticks...
Some more delicious food you can choose from, for ~3 RMB
Along a river on campus. It was really hot (in July)
More of the river

The Chemistry building
You can see one of the physics buildings by the round about.
Some shrine to fallen grad students
